Science-of-Intelligence
Having supported the installation of the Berlin Science-of-Intelligence-Track and having been the first student that was able to realize this track during my studies at TU Berlin, I would like to enable Potsdam Students to follow the path of intelligence, too. Further, non-Potsdam students can enroll my courses, too. Wasn't it great, if we could enable Busines Information System science by intelligence? This is our mission.
The Concept of the Potsdam Science-of-Intelligence Track
We examine and build intelligent behavior in order to understand it.
For instance, in Potsdam business informaton science, we preferably transfer it to AI-based application systems.
Originally, Science of Intelligence is a Cluster of Excellence of the Technische Universität Berlin. Now, we intend to connect University of Potsdam, too.
Its main objective is the study of intelligence, whether natural or artificial, whether individual, social or collective. At SCIoI, researchers examine a wide range of intelligent agents and behaviors in order to extract general principles of intelligence that will help us understand intelligence, but also create intelligent technology. Intelligence research inevitably raises ethical questions, and our goal is to understand how to address them and to understand the right methodology for intelligence research.
What is intelligence?
Understanding intelligence is one of the great scientific challenges of our time. Researchers have spent decades trying to define this elusive feature. However, despite immense scientific efforts spanning different disciplines, to this day our understanding of intelligence remains fragmented. The disciplines dealing with this topic, from psychology to neurology, from behavioral science to robotics, tend to remain segregated, and their findings disconnected. Our goal at Science of Intelligence is to create a unified, interdisciplinary endeavor towards the understanding of intelligence, and we do this by observing, analyzing, and building intelligent behavior, examining it from both its biological and artificial standpoints.

Further information
To reveal the principles of intelligence and transfer them to AI-based application systems is a long-term goal. Therefore, the cluster is devoted to the training of the next generation of intelligence researchers.
Potsdam Student Education Options
In addition to numerous courses being offered by the professorhip presented, here, Potsdam studens can enroll in all courses in the field of intelligence at the following universities:
- Technische Universität Berlin
- Humboldt Universität zu Berlin
- Freie Universität Berlin
To do so, please realize the follwing steps:
Select an AI course at the participating university.
Consult with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marcus Grum whether the selected course has potential for AI-based application systems.
Apply for a subsidiary hearing (DE: Nebenhörerschaft) at the university (via the official contact points of the respective universities) and request enrollment in the selected course from the person responsible for the course.
Request from the examination board (DE: Prüfungsausschuss) that the selected external lecture can be included in the selected module of your own study regulations at the University of Potsdam.
Complete the external course and have this documented with a grade certificate (DE: Notenbescheinigung) from the external course instructor.
Submit a request to the examination board for recognition (DE: Antrag auf Anerkennung) of the course with a grade certificate as already requested in the fourth step.
Submit the grade certificate and the notification of recognition from the Examination Board to the Examination Office (DE: Prüfungsamt) for entry of the grade in your own study overview in the PULS system.
Berlin SCIoI Student Education Options
